Lesson Plan

The Science of Sound Lesson Plan

All 3 levels$14

Why does a short straw squeak while a long one hums? This week your kids find out, with their own ears and a ruler.

This five-day sound unit gives you a ready-to-teach plan for three levels, Littles (K-3), Middles (4-6) and Bigs (7-8), for siblings or a mixed classroom. Days run Reading, Writing and Words, Science and Math, Hands-on Project, then a Friday show. Littles take a listening walk, make rice dance on a homemade drum and talk through string-cup telephones. Middles tune a water-glass xylophone with measured water levels, build straw pan pipes and learn every part of the ear. Bigs measure frequency with a free tuner app, survey decibels around them, and time echoes to calculate the speed of sound. Every activity keeps ears safe, with no very loud sounds.

Perfect for homeschool families, multi-age classrooms and physical science units.
