Lesson Plan

The Oregon Trail Lesson Plan

All 3 levels$14

Pack the wagon, hitch the oxen, and walk 2,000 miles west, one landmark at a time.

This five-day history and geography unit gives you a ready-to-teach plan for three levels, Littles (K-3), Middles (4-6) and Bigs (7-8), for siblings or a mixed classroom. Each day follows the same rhythm: Reading, Writing and Words, Science and Math, Hands-on Project, then Friday Show and Tell. Littles decide what fits in the wagon and shake cream into butter the way the bumpy trail did. Middles keep a trail journal and map real landmarks from Chimney Rock to South Pass. Bigs read real 1850s diaries and run a trail-choice simulation with real distances and supply math. Every level looks at the trail from the side of the Native nations whose homelands it crossed, honestly and kindly.

Perfect for homeschool families, multi-age classrooms and westward expansion units.
