Lesson Plan

Knights & Castles Lesson Plan

All 3 levels$14

Lower the drawbridge and step inside: this week your child or students meet the lords, knights, cooks and blacksmiths who made a castle run.

This five-day Middle Ages unit gives you a ready-to-teach plan for three levels, Littles (K-3), Middles (4-6) and Bigs (7-8), for siblings or a mixed classroom. Days run Reading, Writing and Words, Science and Math, Hands-on Project, then Friday Show and Tell. Littles label a castle, test thin and thick walls, build a cardboard castle and design a coat of arms. Middles follow a page to knighthood, test which tower shape is strongest and cook a medieval pottage. Bigs sort the feudal pyramid, read Magna Carta as a primary source, build a motte-and-bailey model and run a craft-stick catapult lab with soft projectiles. Common myths are corrected along the way.

Perfect for homeschool families, multi-age classrooms, medieval history and STEM units.
