Lesson Plan
Meet the curious minds behind the light bulb, the paper bag, the airplane and the traffic signal, then become an inventor yourself.
This five-day STEM and history unit gives you a ready-to-teach plan for three levels, Littles (K-3), Middles (4-6) and Bigs (7-8), for siblings or a mixed classroom. Each day follows the same rhythm: Reading, Writing and Words, Science and Math, Hands-on Project, then Friday Show and Tell. Littles hunt for everyday inventions, test Margaret Knight's flat-bottomed bag and build an invention from recycled materials. Middles follow Benjamin Franklin's experiments and Thomas Edison's Menlo Park lab, run a static electricity lab and tell the true light bulb story, with credit to Joseph Swan and Lewis Latimer. Bigs read real patents, use the engineering design process, test a glider with a data table and pitch a prototype.
Perfect for homeschool families, multi-age classrooms, STEM units and inventor biographies.
